Super Bowl Sunday

Here it is, 2 pm in the afternoon and in about an hour and a half the Super Bowl is scheduled to begin. I just looked at some of newspapers that I read online and each one had an article stating that Taylor Swift and her pals had just arrived at the Super Bowl stadium. I guess that means the Super Bowl can go on as scheduled! I am writing this blog as my wife is watching the Super Bowl. I am just a football widower.

Newspapers are trying to find a way to stay relevant in the age of social media. If they are going to try to compete with social media, they have lost. If they are trying to get social media users engaged, they sure will not do it by repeating what any social media user can see on their phone in real time. Newspapers need to emphasize what sets them apart from social media. They have trained reporters and they fact check their information for accuracy before they report it. They are NOT self-appointed media gurus who have setup a YouTube studio in their garage. YouTube, Facebook and other social media outlets are rampant with misinformation and opinionated content.

Our whole family (including the dogs) drove up to Sacramento last Friday. We had some errands to run and Sally was going to have her first ORT (Odor Recognition Trial) on Saturday. We delivered some coffee to a friend, brought gifts for some of the staff at MarQueen Pet Emergency and took the dogs to Loomis Park, so they could hike and swim. That was the highlight of their day. Nancy and I dined at one of our favorite gluten free restaurants in Eldorado Hills, the Almighty Bistro. They are very accommodating and let us sit outside and eat with our two dogs sitting by the table with us. It was very pleasant to go out and have such a great dinner. You just don't find anything like that where we live.

On Saturday morning, Sally participated in her first ORT. She did okay even though she didn't pass everything. After Sally completed her ORT we returned home. It is a good five hour drive and we arrived just before it got dark. It turned out to be a very a good weekend for all us. I hope your favorite team won the Super Bowl.
