Boys' Night Out

My brother-in-law, Robert, his friend, Tony, and I had a Boys' Night Out in Las Vegas. We came, we gambled and we lost. *Robert and Tony flew into Las Vegas, while I drove from central California. After their delayed flight arrived, we ate a late 10:00 PM supper at the Hofbrauhaus in Las Vegas. It was a good late supper. After a little bit of chit-chat, we ended up back in our hotel and decided to call it a night.

At breakfast, the next morning, we decided to plan our day. We were going to go down to the Las Vegas strip, walk around, do some shopping and have lunch. I mentioned that I needed to make sure that I got my walking steps in for the day and Robert said he would make sure that I got my steps in.** We walked along the strip and took in all of the local color. One aspect of the local color that I will remember is the young ladies dressed in their costumes as if they were straight from the Flamingo Casino. At least the temperature was in the upper 40 degrees, so they didn't have to worry about getting too cold walking along the strip. After enjoying all of the local color, we did a little shopping and ate our lunch at the Paris Las Vegas Casino. After finishing our lunch we had enough of seeing the strip and headed back to our hotel. The big question was should take an Uber or should we walk. Robert, knowing that I needed to get my steps in, decided we should walk. After all, Google said it was only a short 36 minute walk back to our hotel.

After eating our dinner, later that evening, we hailed an Uber and headed toward the Sphere, the newest attraction in Las Vegas. The Sphere is a music and entertainment arena. The Sphere on the inside has an 18,600-seat auditorium which includes a 16K resolution wraparound interior LED screen and speakers with beamforming and wave field synthesis technologies. The sound system also can deliver sound through the floorboards. I personally found the speakers to be way too loud. The outside of the Sphere, which is what most people will see, covers an area of 580,000 sq ft of LED display space making it one of the more visual Las Vegas Attractions. Although the outside features various themes, the exterior is also used for advertising. I cannot help feeling - We do NOT need anymore advertising! This makes the Sphere turn out to be somewhat of an 'eye sore'. But this is Vegas and Las Vegas is a city of excesses. So, it probably fits in well with the Vegas landscape.

After our show finished at the Sphere Robert made sure that I was getting in my steps as we walked down to one of the casinos where the three of us had a nightcap before we called for an Uber to take us back to our hotel. Back at the hotel we said our goodbyes before going up to our room. I was planning on driving back early in the morning while they slept later in the day before catching their flight back to San Francisco. Overall, the three of us had a great boys' night out. Hopefully, we will do it again next year.

* We are not big gamblers and we had reached our combined limit of $4 on the one dollar slot machine in just a couple of minutes.

** Robert was so diligent in making sure that I got my steps in, I didn't have the heart to tell him earlier in the day I had reached my goal. I finished the day with a total of 22,113 steps.
