A New Camera

Last month I purchased a new camera - a Sony A6700. I am an octogenarian* who has had two back surgeries. The vertebrae in my lower back, L1 thru L5, have been fused together; it has limited me in how far I can bend down and how far I car rotate my lower back. It has also made it much harder for me to carry any semi-heavy item. Carrying a full-frame camera with a telephoto lens puts a real strain on my back. Consequently, I have not been able to enjoy my photographic hobby.

The Sony A6700 is a smaller camera which weighs less than the Canon cameras I have been using. The real difference is the weight of the lenses. They weigh quite a bit less. They also aren’t as expensive. I can carry this Sony camera around in my hand instead of having to carry it around my neck. That takes a lot of the pressure and strain off of my back.

In the past, one of the drawbacks in using a smaller camera, like the A6700, was the quality of the photographs that they produced. But, in the last couple of years, there has been quite an improvement made in the quality of the photographs from these smaller cameras. They are now almost as good as a larger camera. Prints made from these smaller cameras are almost indistinguishable as those from their larger cousins.

Included in the gallery are some of the first photos from the A6700 that I took while Nancy, the dogs and I were at Shaver Lake a couple of weeks ago.
