Golden State Valkyries
The Golden State Valkyries had a great second season home opener beating the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, May 10, 95-74. Nancy and The Three Amigos (Bobby, Tony and myself) were at the Chase Center and witnessed the Valkyries’ winning home opener. This was the first WNBA basketball game that I have attended and the atmosphere was electrifying.
The Chase Center is home to the Golden State Warriors of the NBA and Golden State Valkyries of the WNBA with a seating capacity of 18,064 for basketball games. During the Valkyries games, the Chase Center is nicknamed "Ballhalla". It is a reference to Valhalla of Norse mythology, a place where Valkyries would bring select fallen warriors. For their home opener, all fans attending the game received a t-shirt with the logo "Ballhalla".
I have always been a college football fan. There is nothing like attending a college football game. But, after attending a GS Valkyries game, I can say this was just as exciting as any football game I have attended. I have started to pay attention to the WNBA.
I have included some photos taken with my iPhone that show the Chase Center, player introduction and the atmosphere at the game. I hope you enjoy them.
