August - A Busy Month
August has been a long, hot and busy month for the Frank family. If you know anything about the weather in the central San Joaquin Valley – it is HOT! Except for this last week the temperature has been over 100 degrees during the day and the night time low rarely goes below 75 degrees. This week the temp has been hovering around 95 degrees during the day and 70 degrees at night. I guess you can say we are experiencing a cool down this week.
During this month, Sally celebrated her fourth birthday, Skye turned thirteen years old and Nancy and I celebrated our 55th anniversary. Nancy has a tradition of giving each dog on their birthday a scoop of ice cream with a lit candle on it while singing ‘Happy Birthday’. I am not sure what the dogs think about this tradition, but I know they sure like the scoop of ice cream. The ice cream is eaten/swallowed in a very short time. The dogs also get some pot roast on their birthdays. After all, they are our kids.
What made this month seem so long was that Nancy was recovering from hip replacement surgery she had in the latter part of July and Gail was recovering from a minor surgery she had the day before our wedding anniversary. We traveled to Sacramento on Wednesday for Gail’s surgery which took place the following day. That Thursday ended up being one long day. We didn’t get back home till after 10pm that evening. That next day, Friday, was our anniversary and all of us were just too tired to do any celebrating. After all, as you probably already know, we are such ‘party animals’. We are happy that Gail’s check-up and surgery went well, that is enough celebrating for us. Poor Gail had to wear the ‘cone of shame’ until the stitches were taken out. She is doing much better now.
Earlier this month Nancy received a congratulatory card from the AKC (American Kennel Club) informing her that Gail had been chosen as one of the 2026 LRC Combined Top 20.

Between the heat and everything else that has been going on this month, I haven’t taken very many photos, but I will still try to add some new photos to the August photo gallery page. Cool September is right around the corner.
